Greenwich is a hidden gem of Sydney. It's a harbour-side suburb on the lower north shore of Sydney between Lane Cove and Wollstonecraft. It's renowned for its natural beauty and is less than 7km from the city centre. It really is the best of both worlds - close to city but clean, safe and spectacularly beautiful.
One of the great attractions of Greenwich, and my house especially, is its proximity to beautiful parks and walking tracks which will take you all around the harbour foreshore.
It's a great place for hiking, sailing and kayaking and there's a public golf course just up the road.
There are many local parks with children's play equipment and outdoor training facilities (the best is at the bottom of my garden) and tennis courts for hire. Nearby Lane Cove is a major bus transport hub and has supermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars and a pub.
We live in a semi-tropical rainforest. So be prepared to encounter insects and the local wildlife.
In the day time you might encounter beautiful big lizards - water dragons, goannas, blue tongues and frill necks - but only if it's a sunny day and they don't scamper off at your approach.
You'll also hear, and hopefully see, our big fat kookaburras, brightly coloured lorikeets and, if you're super lucky, a lyrebird.
The shops and restaurants of Crows Nest and Lane Cove are nearby and can be reached in minutes by car or bus or, for the more active, on foot.
The local Greenwich village shops have cafes, a grocery store which would satisfy the most discerning foodie, a pharmacy which delivers, a bottle shop and a post office.

BY CAR
The house is 6.5km by road from the CBD. It takes around 15 minutes outside of peak hour. If you're travelling into the CBD during peak hour, bus, train or ferry are better options from any part of Sydney.
BY FOOT
If you have the time, this is a great option. It takes around 80 minutes. You can follow the foreshore for much of the route and walking across Sydney Harbour Bridge is a great way to start your day.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
If you plan on using public transport while you're in Sydney I strongly suggest you download and practise using the TripView app before you arrive and make sure you purchase an Opal Card.
BUS
Our house is one of only five houses in Greenwich that enjoys direct access to the waterfront and is also on the main bus route (261) to the city. The bus stop is 60m away. Mon - Fri the 261 runs every 25 mins in peak hours (i.e. before 9am and after 3pm) and hourly in between. It starts at 6.30am. The last bus from the city is at 9.30pm.
The 261 bus to the city doesn't run on Saturday night after 5.20pm or at all on Sunday. However the buses which run along the nearby Pacific Highway go to the city, north west, northern beaches, Manly, Bondi Junction and through the inner west to Botany (near the airport's domestic terminal). They run at 15 minute intervals 7 days a week until the early hours of the morning.
The walk from our house to either of the train stations and to the Pacific Highway involves a steep hill and isn't suitable for anyone with impaired mobility.
TRAIN
We are within walking distance of St Leonards and Wollstonecraft train station. St Leonards is a major transport hub and trains from here run to most parts of Sydney including Macquarie University.
FERRY
There are two ferry services in Greenwich. There is a private ferry from Greenwich Wharf, which is a 15 min walk and runs on a business commuter friendly timetable and there is a public ferry (takes Opal Cards) from Greenwich Point Wharf, which is a longer (but very beautiful) 30 min walk or a 5 min bus ride (Route 265).
The ferry from Greenwich Point wharf will take you to Birchgrove in 3 mins and to the main Sydney CBD ferry wharf in 25 mins. It also stops at Cockatoo Island, which is a really interesting place to visit.
