This area is family orientated with primary and secondary schools just minutes away and a small park with open spaces and trees. The local council have improved the landscaping around the area and we are included in the Greenway walking/cycling map for getting about in and around London. If you are here for a few days and are sporty, we have a large field with a 'Green Gym with running track which is free to use just outside our front door.
There are 2 supermarkets ASDA and Lidl just 10 minutes walk away and a 24 hour Tesco's which is a bit further away but you can walk to it during the day but I would recommend the bus if you were to go late evening it is in a shopping complex where there are also High Street fashion stores and a Costa coffee shop.
Locally near to Cyprus station we have 2 small general stores, somewhere to buy Fish & Chips or Kebabs and a pharmacy.
We are opposite - across the water from the London City Airport and you can see the planes landing and taking off close by the university campus and it is very easy to reach by the DLR and takes about 20 minutes in journey time. There is a Picture House cinema and a multiplex Vue cinema in Stratford, where there is also a beautiful old Theatre, the Theatre Royal and a modern venue Stratford Circus and Arts Centre.
Tourists often ignore this part of East London but there is a lot to do and see and and so much local history to make for many interesting days out :
e.g the Battle of Cable Street in Poplar 1936 when there was a standoff between the people of the East Endand and a rally organised by the Facist Movement, which is commemorated by a large wall mural on the side of St Georges Town Hall in Shadwell which is on our part of the DLR route and the stop before Tower Gateway and the Tower of London.

I love having the DLR network on the doorstep, it makes it so easy to get out and about this great city. The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Westfield in Stratford, 02 in North Greenwich, Canary Wharf and Greenwich are easily accessed from here via the DLR and the Jubilee Line which will also take you into the West End in 25 minutes . We live in what was the main Olympic borough so you will find that the public transport has been greatly improved and it is easy to use. There are plenty of places of interest nearby and National Rail stations are not far away making it simple to go further afield.
It takes between 30 and 40 minutes to reach central London in Zone 1 from Beckton which is in zone 3. The local buses are pretty good as well and we have a night bus that stops just down the road and comes in from central London.
From Stratford you can travel on the High Speed trains outside of London to the Kent countryside including Canterbury and the seaside town of Margate or National Rail to Essex and the seaside at Southend or to Brighton from London Bridge on the Jubilee line, to name but a few. You can also pick up a Stansted shuttle bus to and from Stansted airport just outside Stratford station which is very convenient for travelers.
