More “down home” than luxury but beautifully situated in the tropical forest with fruit trees and breathtaking sounds of frogs and birds. The host lives next door on the property and comes in and around the house a lot so not very private but hospitable and welcoming.

Cathia was very responsive, and explained the layout and appliances very well. Beautiful open cottage nestled in a lush tropical rainforest. Tree frogs sing you to sleep in the evenings, and papaya and orange trees that you can harvest for breakfast fruits! The expansive veranda is great for lounging, and the freshwater pool is just the right temp for a refreshing afternoon swim. Geckos and wild birds are always stopping by for a quick gander…. We were a party of eight (two families with teenage kids), and we fit comfortably.

The house felt like our own private oasis. It felt like a place you see in a rom com movie. Cathia was responsive and went above and beyond. When our rental car battery died, she canceled her plans for the day to make sure we were taken care of and even drove us into town to get a new car. The kitchen was stocked with bread, pantry staples, and breakfast items including bacon, fresh eggs, and fresh fruits. The bathroom was stocked with toiletries- shampoo, conditioner, body wash, q-tips, cotton swabs & sunscreen. Additionally, there were chairs, sand toys, snorkeling items, and beach towels available to take to the beach. We truly enjoyed our stay at this magical place! We wished we would have planned more time to hang out at the house. I can’t recommend this place enough! Thank you Cathia for your hospitality and the amazing memories!

Plenty of space for our multi age group of 6, inside as well as a spacious lanai. The kitchen was nicely equipped and everything in the house was of very high quality. The bathrooms were also well equipped with towels, soaps, shampoo, etc. The grounds offered a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere. Our host stopped by frequently to be sure we had all we needed. She also provided details for hiking in to a magnificent waterfall. She kindly permitted us to host some local friends and their baby for an evening visit. Continued upgrades, such as a gravel driveway were in process while we were there but did not inconvenience us in any way. The small in-ground swimming pool was convenient and refreshing, especially after a sweaty hike in the rainforest. We were located close to some other areas we were interested in seeing and hiking as well as a quick drive to Hilo where we planned to spend the next several days. This location was stunning, providing a unique stay.
